Travel

I had never heard of this place before reading about it on SFGate's website. I love coming across little gems like this place and I hope one day to visit - any other takers????

THE ISLANDS OF BRITISH COLUMBIA / Vancouver's artistic 'commuter isle' / Bowen, only 45 minutes away by ferry, is home to young gourmets, old hippies: "Bowen is a craggy, teardrop-shaped, 20-square-mile island just northwest of Vancouver; including the ferry ride, you can be there from downtown in 45 minutes, traffic willing. That makes it all the more remarkable that it has the same artsy, funky, mellow wilderness qualities as Washington's San Juans and British Columbia's Gulf Islands - and the same mix of old-timers, hippies and young urban refugees enjoying a calendar stuffed with down-home festivals, markets and community celebrations."
