11th Day of Consecutive Yoga ...

Today is Tuesday, August 25th, 2009 ...

I have now done yoga for 11 consecutive days - yeah - good for me! Today I had a teacher who I have taken before - Kerri at yoga Tree on valencia. It was a vigorous class with a spiritual focus. She is also one of the teachers leading the fall retreat in the wine country - it look and sounds amazing! I would love to do that - if I could only sell some paintings and get some substitute teaching positions between now and ... that would be great!

I finally took some photos today of the studio where I first embarked upon this quest - the Gateway Tennis and Swim Club - will post soon ...

how many of you have done yoga this week so far? anyone?

7th Day of Consecutive Yoga ...

hello - well, it's Friday, and I have done yoga now for 7 consecutive days, at 4 different studios, and with 7 different teachers who all have had very unique styles and qualities as teachers.  I can definitely see the benefits in all of the different teaching styles and methodologies that I have experienced during this week.

It has been a great week!  I am very proud of myself for sticking with it.  The physical exhaustion I'm feeling is pretty profound and the muscle aches and pains that I have been having are also pretty intense.  My triceps, my hamstrings, my hips, and every single core muscle imaginable are on fire ... or should I say,  "they are VERY awake?"

More details on the classes, studios, and teachers will follow ...

4th day of consecutive yoga

Good evening - I'm tired, so I will be brief.  I have completed my 4th day of consecutive yoga - my 1st one was at the tennis & swim club on Davis - then I did a Hatha Yoga class at Satori Yoga on 1st street, followed by 2 Anusara classes at the Yoga Tree on Hayes.  Tomorrow I plan to do a Vinyasa class at the Yoga Tree on Valencia, taught by Pete Guinosso - see link below:

Physically today, my neck and shoulders feel slightly better than they have in a while and my ribs are hurting.  Emotionally I may feel a bit more calm and even keeled than I have lately as well ...

good night - Kelli

40 Days of Yoga

Hi - I have decided to do 40 days of yoga in 40 days ... so 40 days of consecutive yoga.  I'm doing this for several reasons.  I was in part, inspired to do this by the new movie Julie and Julia .... a book by Juan Bautista entitled "40 Days of Yoga,"  and a seminar taught at Yoga Tree here in San francisco, that is 40 days of consecutive yoga, which 2 friends of mine - my favorite gay couple in fact, did and said that it changed their lives.

So, maybe that last part is the main reason ...

I have been doing yoga for almost 10 years now - maybe even more, but I've never been a dedicated practitioner.  I'd like to see what might happen if I do dedicate my practice - will I achieve that sense of peace or balance that has been missing from my life?  Will my eating habits change?  Will my perceptions and perspectives change?  Will my body change and how?

Needless to say I am very curious to see how this changes my life or does not change my life, so stay tuned ....

I am on my second day, and all is well, but pretty much the same ... except that my neck and shoulder is killing me from today's class.

My first class was taken at the Golden Gateway Tennis and Swim Club - I belong to the club, so the class was free - it was a flow class and it was awesome!  More info. on this space and teacher to come ...

and then today, I took a class at Satori Yoga, on 1st street, between Market and Mission - a lovely space.   The class was an Iyengar based hatha yoga class - some really great and challenging poses were done - more on this studio, class, and teacher to come as well ....

cheers for now - Kelli

Jeff Soto's Blog

Here is a blog of a working artist in Riverside. I was at a workshop that he spoke at and was impressed with what he had to say about being a professional working artist. I came across his blog while I was perusing the RAM (Riverside Art Museum) website and wanted to share it with you all. I too have a dream of one day being a professional working artist. You can view his art on his blog ...

Jeff Soto's Blog: "Been painting much more lately, feeling much freedom. Working on wood, paper, canvas, cheap scrap paper, exploring, using ink, watercolors, trying new stuff. It's been very liberating. Working on some new stuff for a few group shows and something big at the end of the year. Check at the end of this blog for more info."

Travel

I had never heard of this place before reading about it on SFGate's website. I love coming across little gems like this place and I hope one day to visit - any other takers????

THE ISLANDS OF BRITISH COLUMBIA / Vancouver's artistic 'commuter isle' / Bowen, only 45 minutes away by ferry, is home to young gourmets, old hippies: "Bowen is a craggy, teardrop-shaped, 20-square-mile island just northwest of Vancouver; including the ferry ride, you can be there from downtown in 45 minutes, traffic willing. That makes it all the more remarkable that it has the same artsy, funky, mellow wilderness qualities as Washington's San Juans and British Columbia's Gulf Islands - and the same mix of old-timers, hippies and young urban refugees enjoying a calendar stuffed with down-home festivals, markets and community celebrations."

This is my First Post

Welcome to my new blog - I plan on using this blog to post my art work and any thoughts I might have that are interesting or not interesting - that remains to be seen ... thank you for visiting ... :)
